1. Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh castle sit’s dominating the city centre on the top of Castle rock 130 metres above sea level. Castle rock is a dormant volcano and the castle sits on the plug. It is estimated to have risen 350 million years ago. The castle has been a royal residence from 12th century and is now the top visited attraction in Scotland. In 2017 the castle registered over 2 million visitors. The castle also host’s the annual Edinburgh military Tattoo which started in 1949 and now the stands hold 8,000 people each day.

2. Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is a large fresh water Scottish loch which is spread across 3 of Scotland’s districts including Stirling, West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute. Loch Lomond is 22.6 miles long 15ft deep and holds 92,800 million cubic metres of water. Its home too many water sports, boat trips and seasonal activities for all the tourism trade. It’s a must see on your road trip!

3. Loch Ness

This Loch contains more water than all the lochs and lakes in England and wales combined. It is not the biggest loch by surface area that is Loch Lomond but by volume it’s the largest in the UK.

4. Royal Yacht Britannia

The Royal Yacht Britannia or also known as Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia is currently situated and permanently located at Ocean Terminal, Leith Edinburgh. The ship is the formal yacht of Queen Elizabeth II. The vessel was in service from 1954 until 1977. The yacht is reported to have covered over 1 million nautical miles around the world. It is a very busy and popular visitor attraction with well over 350,000 visitors attending the iconic yacht each year.

5. Isle Of Skye

The Isle of Skye is one of the top visitor locations in Scotland. Its breath-taking scenery and historic landscape will wow any traveller or visitor to the island. Isle of Skye is only 50 miles long however it is the largest of the Inner Hebrides islands. The most popular location is the capital Portree. The island only has a population of 10,008. There is many bed and breakfast, hotels and self-catering cottages. However the best option is also to travel the isle via motorhome or campervan
