GETTING AROUND
There is no doubt Scotland is a beautiful country to explore and we think that the best way to do it is in a motorhome or one of our campervans. Hiring a motorhome and then taking the ferry to the West Coast Islands or completing the NC 500 is on most peoples bucket list. One can then create some fantastic memories of this beautiful country. You will also find an abundance of stunning cities and historic attractions in Scotland such as Cawdor Castle, Stirling Castle, Eilean Donan and Glamis Castle. Of course there is Edinburgh Castle too. Those who are interested in the Royal Family can pay a visit to their residence in Balmoral.
WHISKY TRAILS
Scotland is an attraction for whisky lovers – you will be spoilt for choice for distilleries in Scotland. The most popular whisky distilleries can be found in the Scottish Highlands specifically Speyside and Islay.
GOLFING
One of the most popular activities in Scotland is golfing. Golfing Fans have an abundance of large resorts to choose from. The Old Course of St Andrews in Scotland is always a popular choice but there are dozens of beautiful courses all over Scotland and prices are very reasonable.
EXPLORING,WALKING AND CYCLING
Bordered by the deep waters of the North Sea on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side, Scotland has a rich history with many historic battlegrounds. Culloden battlefield is a must where the English fought the Scots on the 16th of April 1746. The Jacobite forces, led by Prince Charles Stuart ( Bonnie Prince Charlie) were defeated by the British. It was a tragic defeat and marked the end of Highland Culture as it had been. Scotland also has imposing regal castles as well as six UNESCO world heritage sites making it a truly inspirational place to visit. For those who seek adventure in the great outdoors, the Scottish landscape is simply a magnet for these types of adventurers. Whether you intend to visit Scotland to walk, cycle, or follow the miles of open coasts, you will never forget the place. Outdoor activities in Scotland are in abundance: Loch Lomond, Cairngorms, and the Trossachs are a must-see. And for those of you who like a challenge, why not scale Ben Nevis.
BEACHES
Scotland has several beaches that are hidden treasures and a must-see.The Scottish beaches can be empty even in our summer and they are hidden gems for you to explore.
OVERNIGHTING IN SCOTLAND
Scotland is the only part of the UK where one can “wild camp”, in other words one can camp overnight anywhere you like ( within reason ). It is important though that when wild camping that all litter and rubbish is taken away with you and disposed of in a designated rubbish bin. Wild camping is a privilege that the Scottish government have allowed over the years but if motorhome users continue to abuse the system we are afraid this could be withdrawn and campers will be forced to use camp sites.
It is very easy to find suitable camping sites in Scotland and it is often a good idea to stop overnight on a site to use their facilities, particularly emptying grey water ( from the tank which holds waste water from the sinks and shower). The toilet cassette also will need emptying and all camping sites have a designated tank to take this waste “black” water. It is also good to stop every few days at a camp site to use their showers and facilities such as electric hook up to recharge the leisure batteries.
