A motorhome holiday with children

A Motorhome holiday is always fun regardless if it is just you and your friends, your other half or even the whole family. At Easicampers Wigan a lot of families have hired our motorhomes and campervans and they all had a fab time and the kids love the outdoors. However, if you are considering taking the children you need to ensure you are fully prepared for the journey ahead of you and have done everything you can to save you a stressful experience further down the line.

Space
Even though an Easicampers motorhome is always a specious environment for your getaway, bringing little ones requires even more space. This comes as children love to be able to run around, play together and need more storage space for bringing things such as clothing or gadgets. This In turn means that getting a more spacious motor home could work in your benefit, especially when you consider that within a bigger motorhome there are more births to be able to sleep in and you will not have to disturb the furniture when it comes to bedtime. This may seem like a strange benefit but when you consider you will be probably staying up a little later than the children will and they will probably be awake slightly earlier than you will.

Pack Snacks
Little ones can be bribed with snacks very easily and in turn, this can keep them calm on long journeys, in the evening before bed and in a range of other situations. Although it is not the healthiest of options, if it is given to them in small amounts and only every so often, it can be a great way to calm them down and keep them quiet. Children often prefer different foods to adults so packing their favourite foods and packing some more mature food is always a good idea if you want to be able to keep everyone happy, including yourself.

Use a Site
Children love to be able to mingle with other children and in turn, opting for a site over a wild camping experience always works out more beneficial to yourself. A variety of sites come with things such as parks, children’s crèche’, childcare and a whole load of other attractions for the little ones to be able to mingle with other children and have fun. Therefore, opting for this over a normal wild camping experience seems like a no brainer with children.

Book Activities
Booking activities for your child on the getaway is very important as if you do not, you will simply get complaints about boredom and monotony. Try booking things such as stop off locations along the way in various castles or small theme parks to be able to tease the fun nature into the children. There are thousands of small locations across the country that you can visit and spend an hour or two to keep the children happy for a few more hours on the road. Things such as Jump Nation, Water world or Silver Blades Ice Rink can be amazing places to be able to kill a few hours and keep the children quiet for the day.

Organisation
Organisation in a motorhome holiday is key. Things such as planning a few rainy day backups, planning the route and organising the things you pack all require a level of skill and perseverance, as something is bound to go wrong and it is important to know that you’ve planned ahead to prevent it. Remember to plan things such as board games, indoor activity backups such as the cinema, Eden Project, water world and other variations as these activities can go a long way in ensuring the children don’t complain if something falls through due to the British weather.

If you are thinking of taking your children along with you on your motorhome break, then take a look through our range of motorhomes and campervans to be able to select one with sufficient room to be able to suit your needs for your family. Our friendly team at Easicampers Wigan will be more than happy to help you make that decision

This is a trip that sees you take to one of the more mountainous regions of Europe through Andorra and over the Pyrenees and along the northern most coast of Spain to the city of Corunna. Camping in Scotland: Top Tips for a Happy Holiday!

I have been talking to some of our customers, who have hired our motorhomes and campervans and a lot of them have gone up to Scotland so I thought it would be a good idea to put together some useful tips for wild camping and a few other bits to help you plan your trip. Camping in Scotland can be one of the most beautiful and amazing experiences of your lifetime, with endless, mountains, picturesque hamlets and an endless array of ore inspiring valleys and loch’s; it’s easy to see why people can get lost in the aesthetics of such an amazing landscape. However, there are a few things you need to understand about this vast country before you can take it head on. Take a look for yourself.

Take Extra Fuel
Scotland can be a very rural country and in turn, some stretches of road may not have fuel stations for over 50 miles. The west coast is especially infamous for this, simply as there are not many people living there so fuel stations simply are not in demand. It is always best to stock up on fuel where you can and whenever you can.

Wild Camping is Amazing
Wild camping is one of the many amazing things about Scotland. Unlike staying at a camping site or motorhome park, wild camping allows you to be able to find untouched locations and camp in the Scottish wilderness. If you want to be able to wake up to a view of the mountains, view of the coast or simply want to sleep within the forest, wild camping could be your new best friend. Unlike England, Scotland allows wild camping and more so actually encourages it, so you won’t get into trouble camping in Scotland and you’ll find many car parks open overnight that boast amazing views over the Scottish highlands.

Take the Four Legged Friend
Scotland has endless forestland and mountains to be able to give your entire family the most enjoyable time possible and luckily for dog lovers, this means including the furry friend. Taking your dog along with you in a rental motorhome is made possible with Easicampers Motorhome Hire @ Edinburgh and in turn, you can really make the most of your get away. Simply let us know you are bringing your pet when you book your campervan or motorhome.

Single Lane
There is an array of back country roads north of Inverness that are all single lane, due to this you’ll need some confidence in driving if you’re going to stay calm whilst navigating a motorhome around single lane roads. There are alternatives however these alternatives to the back country roads can add hours onto your journey so to be able to reach the heart of rural Scotland and ensure a smoother trip, build your confidence in larger vehicles before taking to the open roads.

Pack Right
Packing right for a motorhome get away is usually very simple, clothing, bedding and a few optional extras. However, motorhome camping in Scotland is not this simple. Scotland can be a very unforgiving place so it is important to pack everything you will need in case of an emergency.

A first aid kit is included within the motorhome, however things such as extra blankets in case you run out of fuel and become stranded, extra food in case the weather does not permit movement to the local shops and other precautions should be taken.

Campervan and Motorhome hire Europe

Easicampers Wigan understands that some of the busier tourist attractions in Europe can deter a wide range of people simply because they are too busy to enjoy properly or have been spoilt by tourists over the years. Therefore, we have brought you five picturesque locations for you to be able to enjoy your holiday without the ruined scenery or busy rushed streets.

Kungsleden, Sweden
Kungsleden is a hiking trail located in the Northern Region of Sweden, the trail encompasses over 270 miles of beautiful and virtually untouched European landscape and in turn makes it somewhere you should visit if you have a longing for exploration and nature. The Swedish trail is open all year round and during the winter becomes a cross-country ski route with a few small changes to the route to be able to ease the terrain.

Loch Maree, Scotland
Loch Maree is an untouched loch in the northernmost region of Scotland on the NC500 road trip route, the lake holds over 60 small wood islands and a few of these islands have smaller land locked lakes within them making it a very tranquil location to visit. With its very northern and remote aesthetic, the loch is virtually untouched by tourism and in turn is a beautiful unspoilt Scottish wilderness.
The lake is the sixth largest loch in Scotland and the largest loch north of Loch Ness, so for this reason offers a range of water sports to the locals and the occasional tourist. The lack of public travel links and the distant location means that not many tourists stumble across is and in turn, you should be able to find yourself a motorhome campsite and an array of attractions at a very reasonable price.

Fort Bourtange, the Netherlands
Fort Bourtange is a fortress made through the 80 years’ war between the Dutch colonies and Spain. Built in the Netherlands in 1593 it carries the aesthetic of the country and replicates everything it stands for with its picturesque atmosphere, Cannels, fields and general scenery. Everything about the fortress just screams for attention sand makes it a beautiful place to visit.

Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor is one of the most culturally relevant cities in Europe with direct links to the East Roman Empire, Dalmatian Empire, Bulgarian Empire, Saracens, Russian Empire and the Hapsburg’s; it’s safe to say the city saw its fair share of political and military action. The signs from all of these different empires are visible throughout the city with a wide range of buildings and other attractions in various styles. The Venetian walls, roman gates and Byzantine watchtowers are just a small example of the cultural diversity, which has befallen on the city.

Käsmu, Estonia
Käsmu is perfect for anybody who loves tranquillity and is only a short journey from England. The village is a small North Estonian fishing village set in the Lahemaa National Park, it is this surrounding and small nature of the village, which deters a wide array of tourists. However, this works in your favour as it leaves you some amazingly beautiful coastline to navigate along with a range of small Bohemian hamlets to explore.

Safety Tips for your Campervan Hire UK & Ireland

Just a few safety tips when hiring your Campervan from Easicampers wigan, many of you will be driving a large vehicle for the first time on the other side of the road. This requires you to be mindful of the different skills required to stay safe while driving even if you are an experienced driver. During your check in, we will advise you on how to handle the campervan on the road. When you are on the road in your campervan, your safety is your responsibility. Here are some of our campervan safety tips to help you along the way.

Plan your journey.
Give yourself time to get to your destination. Call ahead if you are going to be late so you are not under pressure. Aim to set off and arrive at your destination in daylight.

Give yourself extra time.
Enjoy the scenic routes but give yourself extra time in rural and coastal locations in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Short distances on a map may take longer to travel in reality. There is an excellent network of motorway and A roads for long distances.

Stay awake.
Always remember to take regular breaks whilst driving especially when travelling long distances. Try to avoid early morning and late night drives.

Always wear a seat belt.
Don’t relax your attitude to safety because you are on your holiday. The same rules apply wherever and whenever you are driving.

Believe lower speed limits.
They are there because of hazards ahead.

Ignore speeders.
Don’t be put under pressure by the vehicle behind you. Maintain the speed that you are comfortable with that keeps in control of the campervan. Pull in and let them overtake you.

Keep your distance.
Don’t be tempted to tailgate to make the driver in front go faster. If the traffic needs to break suddenly you may require a longer stopping distance than your normal vehicle to avoid a collision.

Mobile phones
It is illegal to use a mobile phone for calls or texting while driving in Scotland and Ireland. If you need to make that call, pull over somewhere safe. No excuses. Maintain your concentration and enjoy the drive!
